This collaboration supports the development of new ideas, critical thinking and inclusive approaches to learning—bringing together artists, academics, teachers and young people.

Through this partnership, we create opportunities for shared learning, research-informed practice and meaningful engagement, ensuring our programme continues to evolve and respond to the needs of schools and communities.

Play & Imagine Manifesto [block]

Richmond Arts Service and Royal Holloway, University of London are working in partnership to bring together academic research and creative practice to explore the role of play and imagination in everyday life. Working with artists, students, policy makers and local communities, the project centres on shared decision-making and co-creation, combining RHUL’s expertise in creative arts and education with Richmond Arts Service’s experience in cultural community engagement.

Through a series of co-created events, workshops and conversations, the project will share ideas, test playful approaches and reflect on their impact. The result will be a collaboratively written manifesto: a co-authored, practical resource that captures shared learning and highlights how play can support wellbeing, creativity and connection across cultural and community contexts.

This project is supported by a Royal Holloway Participatory Research Fund (PRF) grant, enabling collaborative research between the university, artists and Richmond Arts Service to explore the impact of play, imagination and co-creation. The Participatory Research Fund is an initiative aimed at creating relevant and impactful research through partnership.
