Our Artist Facilitators

Our school’s programme is delivered by four artist facilitators. Find out more about them and their practices:

Katherine Chandler

Katherine works as both an artist and a teacher and these two roles are intentionally separate.

Her strengths as a teacher are in deconstructing big ideas and processes for children to access. She encourages experimentation, independent work and developing self-confidence with lots of different materials, mediums, and techniques. She has a background in art history and loves discussing art with children, particularly in a gallery setting. Her belief is that all children should be able to access art and feel comfortable in art spaces. It is a joy to be able to engage schools with the art and architecture of Orleans House Gallery.

As an artist, Katherine’s practice is rooted in film and photography, textiles, and performance and installation work. Her main frame of reference is female artists. She likes to pull things apart and work out new ways of putting them back together. Currently, she is working on a photography project, and using lots of experimental practices such as chemigram, photogram, and cyanotype, to see how far she can stretch the medium of photography and the idea of what a photograph is.

Abigail Horn

Abigail is an artist/maker and early years teacher and lecturer with over 20 years of experience. Occupied with materials-based practices and with playfulness in public spaces, Abigail creates environments where adults and children can explore and wonder together. You can expect opportunities to interact with objects and materials, and to make marks and document your experiences.

Natasha Taroghion Budd

A charcoal drawing of trees drawn by Natasha Taroghion Budd

Natasha is a multi-disciplinary artist, printmaker, designer, and illustrator. Drawing is at the heart of all her practice. She is a keen printmaker and views this as an extension of her drawing. She is always looking for new ways to explore mark making and creating spaces, and views printmaking as an ideal medium for this. Her focus is often at the world around her and interpreting this through either direct observation or imagination. She likes to observe the things and details around us that people sometimes miss, and says we all need to ‘Look, look and look!’ more. Connections and our place within the spaces and environments around us, both locally and globally are of importance. This more recently has been interpreted in her development of work as a children’s book illustrator. She is currently a mentee on the Pathways Into Children’s Publishing programme. Natasha has over 15 years of experience in art education and has an MA in Art, Craft and Design Education, as well as being a qualified teacher. Natasha lives locally and the gallery, and its surrounding environment, have been a focus of some of her work and inspiration over the years.
