Announcing Emerging Artists Programme 22.23: Bianca Raffaella
We are excited to announce the artists selected to be part of the 2022-2023 Emerging Artists Programme, designed for early-career artists in the first 10 years of their development.
The successful artists will exhibit their work at Orleans House Gallery from August 2022 until April 2023, transforming it into a vibrant space. We are looking forward to working with Anna Blom, Pía Ortuño, Bianca Rafaella, Mandeep Dilon and Rudy Loewe and continuing to support artists at exciting points in their careers.
Today we are introducing Bianca Raffaella, who will exhibiting the show Hushed Impressions at Orleans House Gallery from 12 January to 5 March 2023. Look out for profiles on the rest of the emerging artists in the coming weeks.
As a visually impaired artist, Bianca Raffaella works with essential lines and tactile marks to describe her subjects, whether these are abstracted figures or atmospheric landscapes. The colour pallets Raffaella chooses are comprised of subtle and faded shades, which are distinctive to her work. She paints exactly what she sees and with the colours which she recognises as the most noticeable in her chosen compositions. For example, reflections from moving shapes that are prominent in Raffaella’s work describe how her eyes respond and fixate to light. Using the strength of her peripheral sight, she can replicate her visual perception to the sighted world.
