Charlotte Stockley - Fired to Create Original Ceramics

Charlotte has been supplying her distinctive ceramic pieces to the gallery for several years. She has a particular interest in glazes and surface design which has allowed the gallery to offer a fabulous range of her vintage-style chemist bottles; miniature milk and cream jugs; fridge magnets, drawer knobs; bowls, massive mugs and cylinders for holding paintbrushes, pencils or toothbrushes.

Graduating in Three-Dimensional Design Ceramics, she began making her own work in a studio based in Kingston, specialising in thrown porcelain work and handmade stoneware items. Mugs, plates and porcelain vessels are thrown on a wheel, whilst tiles and hanging decorations are hand-rolled in stoneware. All the pieces are glazed and the surface designs include hand-printed lithographs and applied decal transfers. Her characteristic monochrome range features surface design often derived from vintage sources, though she also uses text and pattern.

Recently Charlotte has mastered the traditional technique of paper marbling, adapting it to high-fired ceramics for both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional objects, allowing her to produce beautiful marbled ceramic eggs – a process you may have seen demonstrated on Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas. All Charlotte’s work is dishwasher and oven-proof – apart from any gold lustre.

As well as Orleans House Gallery, Charlotte’s wares are in demand by a number of other discerning galleries. She has a propensity for creating beautiful gallery gifts at the right price and is often willing to create distinctive pieces for particular exhibitions – or special commissions for individual customers on request.

The gallery shop also stocks Charlotte’s original range of gift tags and greetings cards.
