Beyond the Frame

Beyond the Frame presents new work by eighteen artists. Each taking a piece from the Richmond Borough Art Collection as a starting point, they invite you to wander beyond the physical and conceptual confines of the depicted view.

Employing a range of styles, materials and processes, the artists reframe the original subject matter. From 19^th century portraiture, to a postcard of a street scene in 1920s Barnes; a painting of a 1940s bride and groom leaving Twickenham Parish Church, to an 1890s photogravure print of Queen Charlotte’s Cottage in Kew Gardens, we encourage you to peer beyond the frame, peek beneath the canvas and step behind the brush.
