Beyond the Frame – Exhibition Submissions
We’re seeking artists to create works in response to the Richmond Borough Art Collection for a new exhibition for the main gallery space running from February – May 2020.
The collection of over 4,400 works is now fully digitised and available to view at https://www.orleanshousegallery.org/collection/
The theme of the exhibition is ‘beyond the frame’ – looking at what is happening behind / opposite / in front of some of these well-known landscapes and views. We are looking for creative responses in a variety of media which take a collection work as its point of departure and consider what is taking place beyond the depicted view.
For example, a response to a view of Marble Hill House in Twickenham, could be the view from the house to the river, or from the house to the Richmond Road – so could even be a view of a bus stop or bins, rather than a traditional landscape. We are looking for real and imaginary views which could include ‘selflies’ of the original artist at work on the view.
We have been inspired by Banksy, Igor Lipchanskiy and Vik Muniz.
Artists should send in a short statement outlining what you intend to create including size, medium and price and examples of recent artwork.
We are seeking artists to respond to one collection work each. The collection works will be exhibited alongside the response.
The exhibition will run at Orleans House Gallery in Twickenham from 22 February – 31 May 2020.
Artists must be available to hang work on 18, 19 and 20 February.
Artists should be available to give a tour of their work to staff on 26 February.
Each contributing artist will receive a fee of £250.
The deadline for submissions is Friday 29 November.
Please email your submission to artsinfo@richmondandwandsworth.gov.uk
