Meet our Outdoor Installation Artist
Joanna Mountain Lawrence will be running our exciting outdoor installation in the grounds of Orleans House Gallery. Here she tells us a little about herself and the project:
“As a creative practitioner I am interested in making experiences which create lasting memories and shift the participant’s viewpoint. I hope to create spaces which encourage people to use their own powers of creativity by making them feel safe, important and invigorated.
I have spent most of the past 15 years producing creative installations, stages and other spaces at art and music festivals. The driving impetus behind this work has always been to create environments in which people can forget their day-to-day concerns and discover new and empowering ways of being, and of seeing.
The Space Grotto of the New Neptunists is a playful re-imagining of Pope’s Grotto centred around his fascination with mineralogy and mining. Participants will become immersed in the outdoor grotto experience before taking part in an art activity. The installation aims to create a feeling of safety, sanctuary, otherworldliness and frivolity in an archetypal grotto-esque manner and will be accessible and enjoyable for visitors of all ages and abilities.”
The Space Grotto of the New Neptunists will be on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 June 2019, visit our What’s On page for more information.
