Dzifa Benson, curator and artist, with her ‘Hero’ poem created for Lines of Dissent
Come and celebrate the final weekend of Lines of Dissent, with an afternoon of poetry, theatre, music and more!
There will be live performances from some of the talented contemporary artists who have been part of the exhibition. Each artist was invited by the exhibition’s curator, Dzifa Benson, to produce creative responses to 23 historic works selected from the Richmond Borough Art Collection.
The event is free but tickets must be reserved via TicketSource here.
About the Exhibition
Curated by multidisciplinary artist Dzifa Benson, Lines of Dissent was initially motivated by the lack of work made by women in the Richmond Borough Art Collection. Using this as a starting point, Dzifa selected 23 items from the collection, nodding towards the number of chromosomes inherited by each of our parents. The show investigates the untold stories and overlooked people hidden in the archive.
Dzifa presents the collection items as a strand of Richmond DNA. She invited contemporary artists from the worlds of poetry, theatre, music and more to produce creative responses to these works. The artists expose invisible inheritances and legacies, including narratives of colonisation, love, resilience, migration, trade and architecture.
